Happy 2019!! January is an odd month on HOL. While everyone is beginning a brand new year, we are also finishing up classes for Autumn Term. You still have a couple of weeks to complete any last minute assignments and earn points for your House! For those interested in teaching next term, class applications will be open until January 25th.

You might find yourself with extra time on your hand before Spring Term begins, but not to worry! HOL staff has been busy coming up with activities for you to fill the downtime.

The Secret Elf Present Exchange is wrapping up after another successful year. Don’t forget to thank your elf! If you’re still in the giving (or stealing) mood, the Slytherin Silver Snake exchange is being rescheduled for January. You also have until January 2nd to enjoy fun on the slopes in the Gryffindor Ski Lodge activity! The Winter Reading Challenge is running in the Book Club through January 27th. Everyone is encouraged to pledge a book! Throughout January, Hufflepuff invites everyone on HOL to partake in their Fantastic Beasts 2 activity. Slytherin has an activity slated for later in January and Gryffindor will host an end-of-term scavenger hunt.

The December Paw Print is now available for your reading pleasure! Alte Sententiam also had a December deadline, so be on the lookout for a new issue. SerpenTimes is currently a “Work in Progress” and accepting submissions through January 15th.

The new year is a great time to start playing Quidditch! In fact, the next Quidditch pickup is on January 3rd at 3:30 am HOL time (the evening of January 2nd in the US). The final matches of the term are currently scheduled for January 12th (Hufflepuff versus Ravenclaw) and January 19th (Gryffindor versus Slytherin). Come out and cheer on your team! A little Snitch told me that a winter tournament may be coming, so keep your eyes out for further announcements.

You can continue to add to your Hoot collection by completing the HOLLERS monthly challenges and tasks found in the Creative Outlet. Puzzle enthusiasts can find more fun in the Department of Huffle Games and Sports or share their own creations in the Puzzle Exchange. We’ll be reaching the halfway point of Order of the Phoenix Read-Along in the Dungeons this month, but there’s still plenty of time for you to join in! If you are looking for more ways to express your creativity, try Inspirational Categories or Quill and Ink or Ink Splatters prompts.

Make one of your resolutions to try something new on HOL and you will surely be able to complete it!
