Students and staff,

The Head Office has become aware of a very serious bug affecting HOL’s code. We are working incredibly hard to fix the bug and any damage it has caused. We can promise that HOL will be back up and running as quickly as possible. However, there might be some missing information that we will have to rebuild over the coming weeks. We will do our utmost to get everything back to normal for you, but to do that, we need everyone’s patience and understanding.

We have managed to rectify the bug and HOL is now up and running again. Most unfortunately, we have lost a certain amount of information relating to new accounts created after March 24th 2019. I do want to reassure you all though that this is not a privacy leak: while personal information (like email addresses) might have been lost, at no point was it ever public or in danger.

We understand that this is incredibly frustrating and distressing for those involved and we are determined to rebuild and make up for everything that went wrong. We have done our utmost to reconstruct all the data we can for these accounts based on points information, quills, department submissions and other data we still have. If you are affected by this and something seems off about your account, please let us know. Unfortunately, we can’t reunite you with Getting into Harry Potter Stories or your About Me sections for your profiles.

Older members, you may also notice some inaccuracies. In order to restore the members section of the database, we had to use information from a back-up made in March. Rest assured that all your points, quills, positions, department submissions, ratings, class records and the like were totally unaffected and will be re-associated with your accounts soon (if they haven’t been already). If you do notice something that’s broken or not quite right, contact the head office at headoffice[at]hol.org.uk

For accounts that we couldn’t reconstruct, we’re asking people to fill out this form. We’re hoping that with some additional information from users, we can reunite as many people as possible with their HOL achievements. If you have any information that might help us reinstate newer accounts (such as names and houses of members or contact you've had with them), please contact the HO urgently.

Note: We have credited all account’s whose data was lost with 1000 beans to make up for the inconvenience. Older members have been given 500 beans to cover anything they might have earned since March. We know this is far from ideal but we are doing our best to make things right.
